Fastjet Zimbabwe will introduce an Airbus A320-200 into its fleet on a short-term lease from 1 August 2026 as the airline moves to increase capacity during the busy August and September travel period.
The aircraft will primarily serve the high-demand Harare–Johannesburg and Victoria Falls–Johannesburg routes, helping the airline accommodate increased passenger numbers while maintaining its scheduled operations.
Fastjet Zimbabwe said the temporary deployment also forms part of a broader strategy to assess the Airbus A320 as a potential permanent addition to its fleet from 2027.
Fastjet Zimbabwe Business Chief Executive and Country Head, Donahue Cortes, said the move would enable the airline to respond to seasonal demand while maintaining service quality.
“The August and September peak travel period presents an ideal opportunity for us to introduce the Airbus A320 into our operation. This additional capacity enables us to meet the increased demand on our busiest routes while maintaining the reliability and service standards our customers expect,” said Cortes.
He added that the lease would also provide valuable operational experience with the aircraft as the airline considers expanding its fleet.
“Beyond supporting our immediate operational requirements, this deployment is an important strategic step. It allows us to evaluate the Airbus A320 within our network as part of our longer-term fleet development strategy. Subject to the outcome of this trial, we see the Airbus A320 becoming a permanent part of the fastjet Zimbabwe fleet from next year, supporting our continued growth and strengthening connectivity between Zimbabwe and the region,” Cortes said.
The Airbus A320 is expected to enter commercial service on 1 August 2026, boosting seat capacity on two of Fastjet Zimbabwe\'s busiest regional routes during one of the airline\'s peak travel periods.
