Zimbabwean exporters are set to gain a major boost after the country completed all required processes to unlock 100% duty-free market access to China for qualifying Zimbabwean products.
The announcement was made by export promotion agency ZimTrade, which confirmed that Zimbabwe has finalised the necessary procedures to enable local businesses to benefit from preferential access to one of the world’s largest consumer markets.
The development is expected to create new opportunities for Zimbabwean producers across key sectors, including agriculture, processed foods, minerals beneficiation, textiles, and other value-added products.
China’s duty-free access initiative is aimed at expanding trade opportunities with African economies by reducing tariff barriers and encouraging increased exports.
For Zimbabwean businesses, the opportunity could improve competitiveness by lowering the cost of entering the Chinese market and creating incentives for increased production.
ZimTrade has encouraged exporters to take advantage of the opportunity by ensuring their products meet required standards and compliance requirements for the Chinese market.
The move comes as Zimbabwe continues efforts to diversify export destinations, increase foreign currency earnings, and promote value-added production.
With China among Zimbabwe’s major trading partners, exporters and industry stakeholders will now be looking to translate the new market access into increased shipments and stronger commercial links between the two countries.
