Almasi Collaborative Arts this week hosts a documentary filmmaking workshop led by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ezra Edelman (OJ: Made in America).

The Ezra Edelman Documentary Workshop, running from November 17 to November 24, brings participants together for documentary filmmaking training.

“Over the course of 7 days, 10 participants will work closely with the Oscar–winning filmmaker to develop their documentary skills and further develop their documentary film concepts.

“Participants include emerging and mid-career filmmakers, including names well known on the local scene: Cynthia Matonhodze, Hupenyu Burombo, and Steven Chikosi,” Almasi said in a statement.

The workshop follows closely on the steps of a highly popular and successful presentation of the inaugural Almasi African Voices Now! Festival of new African works.

The documentary workshop will culminate in a public conversation with Ezra Edelman, the participants, and local filmmaking practitioners.

“This is a notable moment for us here at Almasi. We have been building up to a time when we start to contribute to our filmmakers on the ground, giving them opportunities to grow their craft and sharpen their creative output. Ezra, one of the most talented and accomplished filmmakers of our time, is generously inaugurating this new effort. We have no doubt that this documentary intensive will have an indelible impact on our Zimbabwean filmmakers,” Almasi Co-founder and Executive Artistic Director: Danai Gurira said.
