Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles expects a surge in meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) business, boosted by the recent completion of major renovations to its conference, banqueting, and event venues.
The works, part of the rebranded hotel’s US$30 million ongoing extensive refurbishment, have resulted in a total makeover of the event venues.
“We are still undergoing renovations. We are now in Phase 2, focusing on our accommodation rooms. We have 313 rooms split between two wings. The south wing tower houses all our standard rooms, while the north wing tower houses all our executive rooms.
“As we speak, the south wing tower has been closed since October 2024, and we are scheduled to open it during the second quarter next year, so that’s at least one and a half years of work. When we are done, we will then start work on the north wing,” director of sales, Nyasha Mwandiambira said during the hotel’s inaugural wedding fair held over the weekend.
“We have a desire to enhance the client experience from the time they walk in. All these things are being tailor-made to enhance the hospitality experience. We now have a beautiful spa within the hotel.
“In the next couple of years, we are finishing all the renovations, and then once we are done, we will make sure that everyone has Hyatt at the top of their minds. Whenever you have an event that you want to host, Hyatt should be the first place that you consider and think of, even for accommodation,” Mwandiambira added.
He said Hyatt was excited that Zimbabwe had been named as the world’s best country to visit in 2025 by Forbes Magazine.
“There is a reason for people to come to Zimbabwe. We have the majestic Victoria Falls, we have the beautiful eastern highlands, and the lovely Kariba Dam. We have the Mana Pools. There is also a huge business traveller market now coming in.
“Investors, people looking for mining opportunities, and agriculture connections are coming into Harare. The Hyatt is first there for that business traveller because of our positioning in the city and as a connection hub for guests flying to Victoria Falls, driving or flying to the eastern highlands, flying to Mana Pools.”
